Our Story
Ukids Initiative is the first non-profit organization in Uganda dedicated to supporting single mothers. The stigma around single motherhood is a shame, backed by the community’s perception that life will always be hard thereon once one becomes a single mother. We believe differently. Many factors like early marriages, economic factors, polygamy, health, death, illiteracy, and ambition lead to this status of being a single mother. Girls should be allowed a second chance. At Ukids, we empower single mothers through technology, continuous learning, and unlearning to transform their lives. We aim to support and offer them opportunities to contribute to their communities.
Our Impact at Glance
1,200+ Lives
We have supported over 1,200 single mothers and children, providing them with access to food, education, and essential care throughout Uganda.
500+ Women Empowered
Through seed funds and training, over 500 single mothers have launched small businesses and community projects, building pathways to independence and dignity.
50+ Families Supported Annually
Each year, at least 50 households led by single mothers receive ongoing support, ensuring vulnerable children grow up in safer, healthier, and more hopeful environments.
Our Team
her journey, her strength, her story
For more than ten months, women at the Ukids Initiative training center spend time mastering tailoring, chalk-making, and liquid-soap production. The income from these products helps feed their families and keeps children in school. In December, the current class of single mothers will graduate with seed capital to launch their own businesses, turning skills into lasting independence
